2002 Recovery Festival

Saturday March 9th 2002

(at Church St., steps north of Dundas)

Capacity turn out of 120 people.
9.2 / 10 was the rate of participant approval regarding the conference.

In the last 10 years there has been increased discussion about recovery in mental health, particularly from diagnoses such as schizophrenia. The "Recovery Movement" has become increasingly popular in the United States, with the work of organizations such as the Center for Psychiatric Rehabilitation at Boston University and the National Empowerment Centre. Yet Canada has been less active in its consideration of Recovery. Do people recover from mental illness? And if so, what do we need to empower people towards independence and full autonomy?

8:30 am: registration starts

9:00 - 10:15 am: mix and mingle, introductory speech

10:15 - 10:30 am: introduction by Geoffrey Reaume, "Wall of Words: Writing, Recovery and Remembrance”

10:45 am - 12:00 pm: Recovery Stories, Our Stories
5 personal narratives followed by question and answer. Panelists to be announced.
